With its establishment, work will be done with greater excellence in the field of Panchakarma. It is noteworthy that the Chief Minister had announced plans to open a Center of Excellence in Panchakarma in Chaksu in the budget year 2023-24.

Earlier, the state government had also approved the operation of the International Center of Excellence in Panchakarma in Jodhpur.

Why does the government want to open Panchakarma centers?

The Rajasthan government is going all out to promote Ayurveda Wellness Tourism in the state.

Currently, the Panchakarma facility is available in only 52 out of 124 Ayurvedic hospitals in the state.

Besides, to augment AYUSH treatment in the state, the government plans to set up a Unani college on the campus of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Rajasthan Ayurved University, Jodhpur, and a Unani hospital in Balotra near Barmer.

What is Pachakarma?

  • Panchakarma is a method of cleansing the body of all the unwanted waste after lubricating it. Panchakarma are 5 (five) in number; hence the term PANCHA (five) – KARMA (procedures).
  • Panchakarma treatment is unique in the sense that it includes preventive, curative and promotive actions for various diseases.
  • Three doshas of the body, Vata, Pitta and Kapha, which broadly represent the nervous system, the metabolic system and the nutritive system, keep the human body in balance. Whenever the delicate balance between these doshas is disturbed, a disease may be manifested.
  • The main objective of the Ayurvedic system of treatment is to restore the original state of equilibrium between the doshas. In order to achieve the same Ayurveda has advocated certain regimens and treatment modalities such as Dinacharya, Ritucharya, Vega Adharana, Rasayana–Vajikarana and Panchakarma.
