Every year 16 January is celebrated as National Startup Day in India. On this occasion, events are organized across the country to promote the startup ecosystem.

National Startup Day 2024 Theme:

The official National Startup Day 2024 theme has not been announced yet. Whereas last year the theme of 2023 was “Founders of Today, Leaders of Tomorrow”.

Background of National Startup Day:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his interaction with over 150 startups on January 15, 2022, announced that January 16 will be celebrated as 'National Startup Day'.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister had called startups the 'backbone of new India'.
This decade will be the decade of technology in India. This decade will be called 'Techade'. Where innovation, entrepreneurship and a healthy startup ecosystem will help free innovation from the shackles of government processes and bureaucracy.
The event, marking the 6th anniversary of India's start-up initiative, showcases start-ups across various sectors including health, agriculture, space, Industry 4.0, science and others.
Six working groups were formed after dividing over 150 startups.

Importance of National Startup Day:

The achievements of Indian startups are celebrated through the event of this day. Also, on this occasion, the spirit of entrepreneurship is promoted at various levels in the country.
The celebration of this day aims to give a platform to budding entrepreneurs to talk about innovation and their role in the country's economy.
The main objective of encouraging the idea of entrepreneurship in the country is to promote schemes like Make-in-India.
The Indian startup ecosystem has grown from 340+ startups in 2016 to 1,15,000+ startups in 2023.

National Startup Week organized:

National Startup Week is organized every year by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
The entire week from 10th to 16th January has been marked as National Startup Week.

Important facts related to startup:

Innovation: New startups often create new technologies that solve problems faced by ordinary users in their daily lives.
Employment Generation: India is the most populous country in the world. The government is finding it difficult to provide jobs to everyone. A large number of successful startups can provide jobs to a large population of India.
Increase in exports: With new products and services, India's exports will increase while reducing the trade deficit.
Foreign Investment: If a startup has a good idea then it can attract foreign investors. An increase in foreign investment may bring new opportunities to the country.
Skill Development: These startups can also fix the problem of the high number of unskilled youth in India.
