DG Paramesh Sivamani has taken over as the 26th Director General of the Indian Coast Guard. Before his elevation as the Director General, DG  Paramesh Sivamani was given the additional charge of Director General of the Coast Guard in August 2024 after the death of the 25th  Director General of the Indian Coast Guard, Rakesh Pal, on 18 August 2024 in Chennai.

About DG Paramesh Sivamani 

DG Paramesh Sivamani is an alumnus of the National Defence College, New Delhi and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Tamil Nadu.

He is considered a specialist in Navigation & Direction and commanded all the major vessels of the Indian Coast Guard. 

Sivamani, over the last three and half decades, has served in various capacities in onshore and offshore appointments with distinction.

His key staff assignments include being the commander of the Eastern Coast Guard Region and Western Coast Guard Region.

DG Paramesh Sivamani was promoted to the rank of Additional Director General in September 2022 and posted at the Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi.

During his illustrious career, DG Paramesh Sivamani was honoured with the Tatrakshak Medal in 2014 and the President’s Tatrakshak Medal in 2019. He was also awarded the DG Coast Guard Commendation in 2012 and the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (East) Commendation in 2009.

About the Indian Coast Guard 

The Indian Coast Guard was established on 1 February 1977 on the recommendation of the K.F. Rustamji committee.

The Indian Coast Guard comes under the Union Ministry of Defence.

The Coast Guard is responsible for preventing smuggling on high seas, preventing and controlling marine pollution, preserving and protecting the marine environment, and enforcing maritime laws, among other things.

The first Director General of the Indian Coast Guard was Vice-Admiral V.A. Kamath.
