Agreement on power purchase was signed between Ratle Hydroelectric Project of Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan Urja Vikas and IT Services Limited. The agreement was signed by Ratle Hydro Electric Power Corporation Limited on January 3, 2024, in Jaipur in the presence of senior officials of both.

  • Under this, RHP will provide electricity to Rajasthan Urja Vikas and IT Services Limited for 40 years.

About Ratle Hydro Electric Power Corporation Limited (RHPCL):

  • Headquarter - Faridabad
  • Ratle Hydropower Project (RHP) is located in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir. RHPCL is a public company incorporated on June 1, 2021.
  • RHPCL is a joint venture company of NHPC Limited and Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation. Both have equity stakes of 51% and 49%, respectively, in RHPCL.
  • RHPCL has entered into a power purchase agreement with Rajasthan Urja Vikas and IT Services Limited for 850 MW of power generated from the RHP located at Kishtwar.
  • The company has been incorporated to implement the 850 MW Ratle Hydroelectric Project.

About Ratle Hydropower Project (RHP):

  • It is situated on the Chenab River in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The RHP consists of a 133-meter-long dam and two adjacent power stations.
  • The Indian Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, laid the foundation stone of this dam in June 2013.
  • In the context of RHP, Pakistan often alleges that the project violates the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960.
  • Pakistan had objected to the dam's construction in 2013, claiming that it was not in accordance with the Indus Water Treaty. However, the World Bank permitted India to build the dam in August 2017.

  • NHPC Limited is India's largest hydropower development organization. It can undertake all activities from concept to commissioning of hydropower projects. NHPC has also diversified into solar and wind energy development, etc.
  • NHPC Limited was incorporated in 1975 under the Companies Act, 1956. The company must plan for integrated and efficient power development in all its aspects through conventional and non-conventional sources in India and abroad.
  • After a successful IPO in 2009, NHPC is now listed on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
