Union Minister of Health, Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav jointly inaugurated the country's first Healthy and Hygienic Food Street (Prasadam) at Neelkanth Van, Mahakal Lok, Ujjain.
- Commencement: The food street will be fully operational from February 2024 and will have 17 shops.
- Cuisine: This food street will serve traditional dishes made from coarse grains (Shri Anna) like Rajgira, Sanwa, Kuttu, Ragi, Dal-Baphale, etc.
- Hygiene-based: This will be a plastic-free zone where vendors will work wearing gloves, caps, apron etc.
- Training: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) will provide food handling training and the 'Food Safety on Wheels' vehicle will inspect the food weekly.
What are the objectives of the initiative?
- Prasadam aims to connect people in every corner of the country with pure and safe local and traditional food.
- This is in line with the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’.
- The 'Prasadam' initiative aims to enhance Ujjain's tourism attraction and preserve its culinary heritage while also playing a role in promoting economic development.
- The food street at Neelkanth Van, Mahakal Lok in Ujjain, will be the first 100 food streets built in many districts nationwide.
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI):

- Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an autonomous statutory body.
- It was set up under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (FSS Act).
- The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, is the administrative ministry of FSSAI.
- FSSAI consists of a Chairman and 22 members, of whom one-third are women.

Main functions of FSSAI:
- Formulate regulations to set standards and guidelines regarding food items.
- It is providing licenses and certification to food businesses.
- To promote general awareness regarding food safety and food standards.
- To determine procedures and guidelines for laboratories working in food businesses.
