PM Narendra Modi inaugurated, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development projects worth Rs 32 thousand crore in Jammu on 20 February 2024. On this occasion, he also addressed a public meeting at MA Stadium in Jammu city.

  • These projects span health, education, rail, roads, aviation, petroleum and civil infrastructure sectors.
  • The PM also distributed appointment orders to about 1500 new government employees of Jammu and Kashmir. He also interacted with the beneficiaries of various government schemes under the 'Viksit  Bharat - Viksit  Jammu' programme.
  • Rs 32,000 crore projects to enhance education, skills, employment, health, industry, and connectivity. The Prime Minister congratulated the youth of the country for IIMs, IITs and appointment letters.

Record number of educational institutions established in J&K:

  • PM Modi said that in the last 10 years, a record number of schools, colleges and universities have opened in the country, including 50 new degree colleges in J&K. He further said that 45,000 new children who did not attend schools have now been given admission.

Improvement in health facilities:

  • The number of medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir has increased from 4 in 2014 to 12 today.
  • There have been more than 1300 MBBS seats compared to 500 in 2014. The number of PG medical seats has increased to more than 650 today compared to zero in 2014.
  • 45 nursing and paramedic colleges have been established in the last 4 years in the area.
  • Two AIIMS are being built in J&K, out of which Jammu AIIMS was inaugurated by the Prime Minister today. PM Modi said that in the last 10 years, 15 new AIIMS have been approved in the country.
  • The PM also mentioned the expansion work of Jammu airport, connecting Kashmir to Kanyakumari by rail and flagging off trains running from Srinagar to Sangaldan and from Sangaldan to Baramulla. The PM congratulated the people of J&K on getting the first electric train today.

Easy to reach Manasbal Lake and Kheer Bhawani Temple:

  • PM Modi listed road projects in the region. Among today's projects, he mentioned the second phase of Srinagar Ring Road which will make it easier to reach Manasbal Lake and Kheer Bhawani Temple. The Srinagar-Baramulla-Uri highway will benefit farmers and tourism. Delhi Amritsar Katra Expressway will ease the movement between Jammu and Delhi.

Inauguration of several projects to promote education sector:

  • The PM inaugurated, dedicated to the nation and laid the foundation stone of several projects worth approximately Rs 13,375 crore to upgrade the education and skills infrastructure across the country. Mainly schemes dedicated to the nation include:
    • IIT Bhilai
    • IIT Tirupati
    • IISER Tirupati
    • Permanent Campus of IIITDM Kurnool;
    • Academic and residential campuses at IIT Patna and IIT Ropar
    • Central Sanskrit University has two permanent campuses – Devprayag (Uttarakhand) and Agartala (Tripura).

Schemes inaugurated:

  • The Prime Minister inaugurated the permanent campuses of IIM Visakhapatnam, IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya.
  • He also inaugurated the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) – a leading skill training institute on advanced technologies in Kanpur.

Dedicated to the nation:

  • On this occasion, the Prime Minister inaugurated and dedicated the country for better infrastructure like hostels, libraries, auditoriums etc. in many higher educational institutions across the country mainly:
    • IIT Jammu
    • NIT Delhi
    • IIT Kharagpur
    • NIT Durgapur
    • IISER Behrampur
    • NIT Arunachal Pradesh
    • IIIT Lucknow
    • IIT Bombay
    • IIT Delhi
    • Central University of Kerala Kasaragod

Foundation stone laid for many projects:

  • The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of several projects to upgrade infrastructure in several higher educational institutions across the country. These mainly include:
    • Construction of permanent campuses for Indus Central University and IIIT Raichur;
    • Construction of academic blocks, hostels, faculty quarters etc. at IIT Bombay;
    • Construction of hostel and staff quarters at IIT Gandhinagar,
    • Construction of a women's hostel in BHU.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu inaugurated:

  • In a move to provide comprehensive, quality healthcare services to the people of J&K, the PM inaugurated AIIMS, Vijaypur (Samba), Jammu. The foundation stone of this institute was laid by the Prime Minister in February 2019.
  • This hospital, established in an area of more than 227 acres, has cost more than Rs 1660 crore. This hospital has 720 beds for patients, a medical college with 125 seats, a nursing college with 60 seats.

New Terminal Building, Jammu Airport:

  • The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of a new terminal building at Jammu Airport. It is going to be built in an area of 40,000 square meters. This new terminal building will be equipped with modern facilities to serve approximately 2000 passengers during peak hours of the day.
  • The new terminal building will be environment friendly. It will enhance air connectivity, promote tourism and trade, and drive economic growth in the region.
