HDFC became 1st private bank in country to open branch in Lakshadweep

HDFC Bank, a private lender in India, has opened a branch in Kavaratti Island of Lakshadweep on 11 April 2024. With this, HDFC Bank has become the first private sector bank in India to have a branch in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.

Captain Lavkesh Thakur, the Commanding Officer of the Indian Navy, and KP Muthukoya, a well-regarded island resident, jointly inaugurated the new HDFC Bank branch.

Personal banking and digital banking will expand in Lakshadweep:

This branch aims to offer a wide range of services focusing on personal banking and digital banking. Also to upgrade the banking infrastructure in the Union Territory. It also includes customized digital solutions for retailers, including QR-based transactions.

With the opening of a branch in Lakshadweep, HDFC Bank has now established its branches in all corners of the country.
HDFC Bank has established branches in the cold regions of Kashmir, the southern tip of Kanyakumari and now in Lakshadweep. All these are known as major tourist destinations.

As of December 31, 2023, HDFC Bank had a distribution network of 8,091 branches and 20,688 ATMs across 3,872 cities or towns.
Whereas as of December 31, 2022, it was at 7,183 branches and 19,007 ATMs in 3,552 cities or towns.

In addition, this bank has 15,053 business correspondents, mainly operated through Common Service Centers (CSCs).
