Government of India has extended the tenure of the Chief Economic Advisor to the Ministry of Finance,V Anantha Nageswaran for a period of two years till 31st March 2027.
Venkatraman Anantha Nageswaran was appointed as the Chief Economic Advisor in January 2022, succeeding KV Subramanian.
The Chief Economic Advisor to the Ministry of Finance is head of the Economic Division of the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance.
The main functions of the Division are advisory in nature and the Finance Minister is not bound to accept its recommendations.
It examines the domestic and international economic trends and undertakes research studies having an impact on economic policies and management of the economy.
First Chief Economic Advisor to the Union Finance Minister - JJ Anjaria from 1956 to 1961, during the tenure of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
About Venkatraman Anantha Nageswaran
V. Anatha Nageswaran is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad and did his PhD in finance from the University of Massachusetts, United States of America.
He has taught in India and Singapore and has authored four books, including ‘The Economics of Derivatives’ and ‘The Rise of Finance: Causes, Consequences and Cures.’
He also served as a part time member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council from 2019-2021.
Nageswaran has worked in the corporate sector for almost 17 years with companies like Credit Suisse, Julius Baer,UBS.etc.
