This year National Ayurveda Day will be celebrated internationally in about 100 countries across the world. Celebration of 'Ayurveda Day' on the theme of 'Ayurveda for One Health' will be a global event. The eighth Ayurveda Day will be celebrated this year.

  • To make National Ayurveda Day a success, the Ministry of AYUSH will get the support of all the ministries of the country.

'Ayurveda Day' is celebrated on the occasion of Dhanvantari Jayanti:

  • The Ministry of AYUSH had held a meeting of various ministries on 17 October 2023 for the successful organization of 'Ayurveda Day' to be celebrated on the occasion of Dhanvantari Jayanti on 11 November 2023.

All ministries will collaborate to celebrate "Ayurveda Day jointly":

  • Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, while presiding over the meeting, said that Ayurveda Day should be organized as a national event with the mutual cooperation and assistance of all the ministries of the country as per the vision of our Prime Minister.
  • AYUSH Secretary said that we should focus on three main points of Ayurveda Day with the message of 'Ayurveda for all every day':
    • Ayurveda for students,
    • Ayurveda for farmers,
    • Ayurveda needs to be focused on for public health.

Purpose of Ayurveda Day:

  • The objective of Ayurveda Day is to promote and spread Ayurveda at the international level and to establish it in the global scenario for the welfare of mankind, animals, plants and environment.

Background:

  • Every year ‘Ayurveda Day’ is celebrated in India and around the world on the occasion of the birthday of Dhanvantari, the Hindu god of medicine.
  • He is mentioned in the Puranas as the god of Ayurveda.
  • In 2016, the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India declared the birth anniversary of Dhanvantari as National Ayurveda Day.
  • The first Ayurveda Day was celebrated on 28 October 2016.
