Air Marshal Makarand Ranade took over as the Director General (Inspection & Security) [DG(I&S)] at Air Headquarters, New Delhi on 01 December 2023. Along with this, in another appointment, Air Marshal Praveen Keshav Vohra took charge as Senior Air Staff Officer of the Western Air Command of the Indian Air Force.

Air Marshal Makarand Ranade:

  • An alumnus of the National Defense College, New Delhi and the Collège Interarmée de Defense, Paris (France), Air Marshal Makarand Ranade was commissioned into the fighter branch of the Indian Air Force on 06 December 1986.

Ranade's service period of more than 36 years:

  • During his service period of more than 36 years, he was appointed to many important regional and staff posts.

Ranade served as Air Attache:

  • Ranade has also served as Air Attache at the Indian Embassy in Kabul, (Afghanistan).

Ranade has also been given many honors:

  • Ranade was also awarded the Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) in the year 2006 and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in the year 2020.

Ranade appointed in place of Sanjeev Kapoor:

  • Ranade succeeds Air Marshal Sanjeev Kapoor who retires on November 30, 2023, after over 38 years of distinguished service.

Air Marshal Praveen Keshav Vohra:

  • The Air Marshal is an alumnus of the National Defense Academy (NDA) and Vohra was commissioned as a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force on 19 December 1987.
  • PK Vohra is an “A” category qualified flying instructor and as a Wing Commander, commanded No. 47 Squadron, 'The Black Archers' of which he is now the Commodore Commandant.

Vohra has been a founding member of the IAF's Formation Aerobatic Team:

  • PK Vohra has been one of the founding members of the Indian Air Force's Formation Aerobatic Team on the indigenous Kiran Mk-II aircraft, 'Surya Kiran'.

Graduate from the Center of Defense and Strategic Studies, Canberra:

  • He is a graduate of the Defense Services Staff College, Wellington and the Center of Defense and Strategic Studies, Canberra, Australia.

Vohra received several defense honours:

  • This Air Force officer is honored with 'Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM)' and 'Vayu Sena Medal' for his distinguished service towards the nation.
