The Zhen Hua 15, a heavy load cargo carrier sailing from the East China sea, made history by unloading at Adani's Vizhinjam port in India. This achievement has put India on the map for the world's biggest container ships.
About Vizhinjam Port
- The Vizhinjam International Transhipment Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport is a significant project undertaken by the Government of Kerala.
- The port is designed primarily to handle container transhipment, as well as multi-purpose and break bulk cargo.
- The port is being developed in a landlord model with a Public Private Partnership component on a design, build, finance, operate, and transfer ("DBFOT") basis. The private partner, M/s Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Limited, started construction on December 5th, 2015.
- The official UN/Locode of this port is INVZJ.
- Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd. collaborated with the local state government to develop the Vizhinjam port along Kerala's scenic coastline.
- Due to its proximity to international shipping routes that account for 30% of global cargo traffic, and a natural channel that goes up to 24 meters below the sea, Vizhinjam is an ideal hub for some of the world's largest ships to call in.
