Naval Dockyard Eligibility Criteria 2024 

Indian Navy 2024 Eligibility Criteria has been detailed in a notification issued by the Indian Naval Dockyard. Eligibility Criteria typically contain nationality, age limit, physical fitness and educational qualifications. To apply for the Indian Navy Apprentice Trades position, candidates should be an Indian citizen   

Age Limit & Relaxation

As per the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), there is no upper age limit for apprenticeship training. The minimum age requirement is 14 years, while for hazardous occupations, it is 18 years, as outlined in the Apprentice Act of 1961. Hence, candidates born before June 2010 are eligible for non-hazardous trades, and those born before June 2006 are eligible for hazardous trades.

Physical Standards

Candidates aspiring to join the Indian Navy must fulfill the physical fitness criteria outlined in the Indian Navy Apprentice Notification 2024. The requirements include a minimum height of 150 cm, a weight not less than 45 Kg, chest expansion of not less than 5 cm, eyesight between 6/6 to 6/9 (6/9 corrected with glasses), and normal external & internal organ functionality.

Naval Dockyard Apprentice Application Process

The Indian Navy Apprenticeship application form is now accessible through the official website. To smoothly complete the application process, candidates should follow these stages:

  1. Visit the official Indian Navy website.
  2. Register yourself on the online portal at www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS).
  3. Ensure that your name and date of birth on both your Aadhar card and SSC / matriculation certificate match accurately.
  4. Upon registration, log in to the apprenticeship web portal using your username (registered mail id) and password.
  5. Provide your details, including educational information, contact address, trade preference, Aadhar, PAN & bank details, community, etc.
  6. Upload all required supporting documents and validate the Aadhar number to create your profile.
  7. Upon applying for the trade, obtain a printout of the complete profile to submit to DAS (Mumbai) along with the application.

Application Fees 

There is no application or examination fee. Candidates do not need to pay any fee for the examination.

Indian Navy Apprentice 2024 Selection Process

To be eligible for provisional appointment, all registered candidates must successfully pass through all stages of the Indian Navy Apprentice selection process in 2024. The selection process consists of four stages as outlined below:

Candidate Shortlisting:

Candidates will be shortlisted for the written examination on a trade-wise basis as per the vacancy announcement. Selection for call letters will be based on a 70:30 ratio, taking into account the marks obtained in SSC/Matriculation and ITI. A merit list will be generated accordingly. Candidates with valid applications will be placed in a Preliminary Merit List for the written exam.

A preliminary merit list will be compiled for ITI trades, considering the overall percentage of marks achieved in those trades. For non-ITI trades, the provisional merit list will be prepared based on the aggregate percentage of marks obtained in 8th grade (for Rigger trade) and 10th grade (for Forger and Heat Treater trade), respectively.

Written Exam:

Call letters for written examinations will be sent to shortlisted applicants in a 1:5 ratio against available openings in each trade and category, maintaining reservation quotas. The written test, conducted in English and Hindi, will consist of 100 Multiple Choice Questions in an OMR-based format. Incorrect answers will not result in any deduction of marks. 

Interview and Document Verification:

Interviews for the shortlisted candidates in the Provisional List will be conducted in Mumbai. The exact date of the interview will be communicated to selected candidates via email. During the interview, candidates will undergo verification of the following original certificates:

  • SSC/Matriculation Certificate
  • ITI Certificate
  • Aadhar Card
  • Caste Certificate (if applicable)
  • PwD Certificate (if applicable)
  • Ex-Serviceman/Armed Forces Personnel Certificate (if applicable)
  • Sports Certificate (if applicable)

Successful candidates in the document verification process will be evaluated for technical skills in their respective trades.

Medical Examination:

Each selected candidate will undergo a medical examination conducted by the recruiting board. Every candidate must undergo a medical examination and receive a fitness declaration from a Government Hospital. The medical fitness certificate provided by the Government Hospital must be submitted before the candidate is engaged as an apprentice.

Naval Dockyard 2024 Admit Card

The Indian Navy Apprentice Admit Card for the written examination will be sent to shortlisted candidates via email. Only candidates with a valid Admit Card, downloaded and printed by themselves, featuring a clear photograph and signature along with their Aadhar card, will be permitted to enter the examination hall. Candidates will not be permitted to take the written examination if there are any discrepancies between the information on their admit card and their Aadhar card.

Naval Dockyard Result 2024 

The Final Merit List, categorized by trade and category, will be compiled based on the combined marks obtained in the written examination and interview, as assessed by the Board. This list will include a sufficient number of candidates in the reserve list. Subsequently, candidates shortlisted in the Final Merit List will be invited to join the apprenticeship training based on their merit standing, including medical fitness. These results will be made available on the website and communicated to candidates through online communication on their registered email IDs.

Naval Dockyard 2024 Stipend

All selected candidates undergoing training at Naval Dockyard Apprentice School, Mumbai, will receive a monthly stipend as follows:

  • Rs. 7700/- for one-year ITI diploma holders.
  • Rs. 8050/- for two-year ITI diploma holders.

Additionally, apprentices will receive various facilities including:

  • Limited hostel accommodation for non-local male apprentices on a "first come, first served" basis, with in-living apprentices required to pay messing charges.
  • Upon joining, apprentices will receive complimentary items such as two pairs of stockings, two pairs of black shoes, two pairs of workshop overalls, two sets of white uniform, two pairs of white canvas PT shoes, two pairs of white socks, a safety helmet, a pair of hand gloves, four pairs of socks, two pairs of PT dresses, two caps, hangers, a practical logbook, stocking bands, an ID card cover & tag, and other essentials. Apprentices are responsible for uniform stitching fees.
  • Apprentices will be entitled to free medical treatment at both the Dockyard Dispensary and the Service Hospital during the training period.
