Indian Navy Apprentice 2023 - Eligibility Criteria

For applying to Indian Navy Apprentice Posts, candidates must meet the Indian Navy Recruitment 2023 Eligibility Criteria. The educational qualification, age limit, and other variables all contribute to eligibility. We have included all of the eligibility criteria below for the candidate's convenience.

  1. Nationality

Candidate must have an Indian Citizenship to be eligible to apply. 

  1. Age Limit

According to the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), there is no upper age restriction for apprenticeship training. According to the Apprentices Act 1961, the minimum age is 14 years old for non-hazardous occupations and 18 years old for hazardous occupations

  1. Educational Qualification

Aspirants who have completed the 10th standard are eligible for the position of Indian Navy Apprentice. The percentage needed is as follows:

  1. Physical Standards

Aspirants who want to join the Indian Navy must meet the physical fitness requirements established in 'The Apprenticeship Rules 1992' for apprenticeship training and have completed the preceding Physical Apprentice Training.

The Navy Apprenticeship application form is now available on the official website. Candidates should grasp the following stages in order to finish the application process smoothly:

  • Visit the official website.
  • Register yourself in an online portal at under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS).
  • Make sure that your name and date of birth on both your Aadhar card and SSC / matriculation certificate are the same.
  • After registration, login to the apprenticeship web portal with the username (registered mail id) and password. 
  • Enter your details such as educational details, contact address, trade preference, Aadhar, PAN & bank details, community, etc.
  • Upload all supporting documents and validate the Aadhar number to create your profile.
  • After applying for trade, take a printout of the complete profile for forwarding to DAS (Vzg) along with the application.

Indian Navy Apprentice Selection Process 2023

All the registered candidates must pass all the stages of the Indian Navy Apprentice selection process 2023 to be considered eligible for the provisional appointment. The selection process for the Indian Navy Apprentice Recruitment 2023 is as follows:

  • Shortlisting of Candidates

Shortlisting candidates for call letters will be done in a 70:30 ratio based on marks obtained in SSC/ Matriculation and ITI, and a merit list will be created. Call letters for written examinations will be given to shortlisted applicants in the ratio of 1:5 against existing openings in each trade and category in order to preserve reservation quotas in accordance with current standards. 

  • Written Exam

An OMR-based written test consisting of 50 Multiple Choice Questions (Mathematics 20, General Science 20, General Knowledge 10) in English, each carrying one and a half (12) marks, would be held for one hour at the DAS (Vzg) campus. There will be no negative grading for incorrect responses.  

  • Interview and Document Verification

Candidates will be shortlisted for interviews in the order of merit of the written examination in the ratio of 1:2 against existing vacancies in each trade and category. The interview consists of document verification and an oral test.

  • SSC/ Matriculation Certificate
  • ITI Certificate
  • Aadhar Card
  • Cast Certificate (if applicable)
  • PwD Certificate (if applicable)
  • Ex-Serviceman/Armed Force Personnel Certificate (if applicable)
  • NCC Certificate (if applicable)
  • Sports Certificates (if applicable) 
  • Medical Examination

Every selected candidate shall be medically examined by the recruiting board. The first two reserve candidates from each trade and category shall also be called for medical examination to make availability of medically fit candidates to cater vacancies if any emerge during the selection process due to drop-out/ medical unfitness of selected candidates. Medically fit reserve candidates shall not have the right to claim their engagement as apprentice. 

Indian Navy Recruitment 2023: Stipend

All selected candidates will be paid a monthly stipend during the period of training at Naval Dockyard Apprentices School, Visakhapatnam, [DAS (Vzg)]. The stipend will be as follows:

  • Rs. 7700/- for one-year ITI diploma holder.
  • Rs. 8050/- for two years ITI diploma holders.

Other facilities will provided to the apprentices, such as:

  • Limited housing may be available in the hostel for non-local apprentices (male) on a "first come, first served" basis, and inliving apprentices will be asked to pay messing charges. 
  • On joining, apprentices will be given two sets of white uniform, two pairs of black shoes, two pairs of stockings, two pairs of workshop overalls, two pairs of white canvas PT shoes, and two pairs of white shocks for free, as well as a safety helmet, pair of hand gloves, four pairs of socks, two pairs of PT dresses, two caps, hangers, practical log book and stocking bands, ID card cover & tag, and other items. Apprentices must pay uniform stitching fees.  
  • Apprentices will be entitled to free treatment both at Dockyard Dispensary and at the Service Hospital during training period.
