The Indian women’s kabaddi team led by Ritu Negi won the historic 100th medal for India at the 19th Asian Games being held in Hangzhou China. The Indian women’s kabaddi team defeated Chinese Taipei to win a gold medal. This is the first time that the Indian athlete has won 100 or more medals in an Asian Games edition.
India has won 105 medals at the Asian Games 2023, 28 gold, 36 silver and 41 bronze as of October 7 2023.

100th medal for India in an Asian Games
The women's kabaddi team won the 100th medal for India at the Hangzhou Asian Games on day 14 of the 19th Asian Games. India became the fourth country in the 19th Asian Games to win 100 or more medals after China, Japan and South Korea. Before the Hangzhou Asian Games, India's best-ever medal tally was at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games. India had won 70 medals, 16 gold,23 silver and 31 bronze medals at the Jakarta Games.
Double Gold in Kabaddi
The men's and the women's kabaddi teams won gold in their respective events. The Indian men's team defeated Iran in the final. The Indian men's team has now won 8 gold medals at the Asian Games since its introduction in the 1990 Beijing Asian Games. Iran is the other team which has won gold in the kabaddi event at the Asian Games. At the last Jakarta Asian Games, India lost to Iran in the final to settle for a silver medal.
The Indian women's kabaddi team defeated Chinese Taipei(Taiwan) in the final to win a gold medal. It was the third gold medal for the women's team in the Asian Games.
Historic Gold in Cricket
The Indian women's and men's cricket participated for the first time in an Asian Games. Cricket in the T20 format was introduced in the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games and was also included in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
The final match against Afghanistan played at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field, was abandoned due to rain after Afghanistan made 112/5 in 18.2 overs. The gold medal was awarded to India due to its higher seedings. The Indian team was led by Rituraj Gaikwad. Bangladesh won the bronze medal, defeating Pakistan.
Earlier, the Indian women's cricket team led by Harmanpreet Singh had won gold by defeating the Sri Lankan team in the final.
Historic Gold in Badminton
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated South Korean pair Choi Solgyu and Kim Wonho in the men's doubles badminton gold medal match.
The world No. 3 ranked Satwik and Chirag made history by winning India's first-ever badminton gold in the Asian Games history.
