Union Government approves Central Vibrant Villages Programme-II Government Scheme 4 min read

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSC) Vibrant Villages Programme -II in a meeting held on 4 April 2025. Prime Minister virtually chaired the meeting from Bangkok, Thailand, as he is on a state visit to Thailand on 3rd and 4th April 2025.

The Vibrant Villages Programme -II will complement the Vibrant Villages Programme -I, launched by the central government in 2023.

Duration of the Vibrant Villages Programme -II

  • The duration of the Vibrant Villages Programme -II is from 2024-25  to 2028-29.

Allocation of Funds 

  • The total allocation for the scheme is Rs 6,839 crore.
  • It is 100 % funded by the central government.

Nodal Ministry for the Vibrant Villages Programme -II

  • The Vibrant Villages Programme -I & II is being implemented by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

States/UT to be covered under Vibrant Villages Programme -II

The  Vibrant Villages Programme -II will cover the 17 States/Union Territories of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat,  Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and the Union Territory of Ladakh and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Objective of the Vibrant Villages Programme -II

  • The scheme aims to develop the backward villages located in these blocks along the international borders so that the people do not migrate from these areas, and also do not fall prey to hostile enemy propaganda. 
  • Focus will be on creating opportunities for livelihood for these people through the promotion of tourism,  skill development & entrepreneurship.
  • Building of all-weather roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana -IV to improve connectivity in these regions.
  • Providing telecom connectivity, television connectivity, and electrification.
  • To further integrate the population with the national mainstream, regular fairs & festivals will be organised, National days celebration will take place, regular visits by Ministers, senior Government officers from Central and State/UT Government & night stays in such villages will be encouraged. 

About Vibrant Villages Programme -I

  • It was launched by the central government as a centrally sponsored scheme on 15th February, 2023.
  • It covers select villages in 46 blocks of 19 districts in the States of Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, and the Union Territory of Ladakh.
