The Syed Modi India International Badminton Tournament 2023 was held from November 28 to December 3 at the Babu Banarasi Das Badminton Academy, Lucknow.

  • The competition was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
  • Around 250 shuttlers from 19 countries competed for titles in men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.

  • Women's Singles: Nojomi Okuhara (Japan)
  • Men's Doubles: Choong Hon Jian/Haikal Muhammad (Malaysia)
  • Women's doubles: Rin Iwanaga/Ki Nakanishi (Japan)
  • Mixed doubles: Dejan Ferdinand Syah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja (Indonesia)

About Syed Modi India International Badminton Championship:

  • The tournament was started by the Uttar Pradesh Badminton Association (UPBA) in 1991 as the 'Syed Modi Memorial Badminton Tournament' in memory of Commonwealth Games champion Syed Modi.
  • It remained a national level tournament from its inauguration until 2003. In 2004 it was organized as an international event for the first time.
  • The tournament was stopped from 2005 to 2008 due to the political deadlock between UPBA and the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
  • This tournament was introduced to the badminton circuit in 2009 as a BWF Grand Prix event. Since then the tournament has been held annually at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium in Lucknow, although in 2010 it was temporarily shifted to Hyderabad.
  • The Badminton World Federation added the tournament as a BWF World Tour Super 300 event in 2017, with competition beginning in 2018.
