The Mohan Charan Manjhi government in Odisha has announced the details and guidelines of its ambitious social welfare programme for women, Subhadra Yojana. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the scheme on his birthday, which falls on 17 September 2024.
The Women and Child Department of the Odisha government will be the nodal agency for the implementation of the Subhadra scheme.
The Subhadra Scheme was an important feature of the BJP’s 2024 Odisha Assembly elections manifesto.
Duration and Allocation for the Subhadra Yojana
The Odisha government's flagship programme, the Subhadra Yojana, will be implemented for five years-2024-25 to 2028-29.
The state government has allocated Rs 55,825 crore for the scheme for the next five years.
Benefits under the Scheme
- The scheme is expected to cover around 1 crore women of the state in the age group of 21 -60 years.
- They will be paid Rs 10,000 per year in two installments. On Rakhi Purnima and 8 March, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the women beneficiaries will receive Rs 5,000 each.
- The scheme is a direct benefit transfer scheme where the amount will be directly credited to the Aadhaar-linked bank account of the beneficiary woman.
- Women beneficiaries will be provided with a Subhadra debit card.
Eligibility Criteria for the Subhadra Yojana
The age of the women shall be between 21 years -60 years.
They shall be the residents of the state.
All the women of the state are eligible for the scheme except the following;
- Women from economically well-off families,
- Government employees and Income Tax payees,
- Women receiving assistance of Rs 1500 per month or Rs 18,000 per year under any government scheme.
- Owner of more than 5 acres of irrigated land or 10 acres of non-irrigated land,
- Owner of a car,
- An elected public representative in any Urban Local Bodie or the Panchayati Raj Institutions (excluding ward member/councillor)
Additional Benefit
- In the Subhadra Yojana, there is an incentive to promote digital transactions.
- One hundred women beneficiaries with the most digital transactions in each gram panchayat and urban local body will be paid an additional Rs 500 as an incentive.
