Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the function to commemorate the 4th Janjatiya Gaurav Divas and 150th birth anniversary celebration of Birsa Munda in the Jamui district of Bihar on 15 November 2024. The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone and inaugurated various projects worth Rs 6600 crore,meant for tribal welfare.
Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Governor of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, Union Minister Chirag Paswan and other dignitaries were also present during the function.
Tribal leader and freedom fighter Birsa Munda was born in the Ulihatu village in Jharkhand on 15 November 1875. He is considered a Bhagwan (God) by the local tribal population.
This year is Birsa Munda's 150th birth anniversary, and the government of India, through the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs, is conducting various programmes across the country.
On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and the 4th Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched/laid the foundation of various tribal welfare projects.
The first Janjatiya Gaurav Divas was observed on 15 November 2021, and it has been observed every year since then.
15 November was chosen as it is the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, who led the tribals in the Chota Nagpur area against British rule.
The Janjatiya Gaurav Divas honour and remember the struggle and sacrifice made by the tribals in the country’s freedom struggle and celebrate the history, culture, and heritage of tribal communities. Events are held across the country to foster unity, pride, and recognition of their significant contributions to India’s freedom and progress.
