Indian Women Shooters Win Big at FISU World University Games

India opened its account at the FISU Summer World University Games with three gold medals at the start of the medal events on 29 July 2023 in Chengdu, China. The 32nd edition of the Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) World University Games is being organised in Chengdu, China from July 28 to August 8, 2023. More than 560 universities from 46 countries are participating in this prestigious event.

Indian Gold Medal winner:

• The Indian women's team of Manu Bhaker, Yashaswini Deswal and Abhidanya Patil won the gold medal in the 10 m air pistol event, leaving behind China and Iran.

• Manu Bhaker also won gold in the women's individual 10m air pistol. Hungary's Fabian Sara won the silver medal while Chinese Taipei's Yu-Ju Chen earned the bronze.

• Elavenil Valarivan defeated USA's Mary Tucker in the women's 10m Air Rifle to secure the third gold medal for India.

FISU World University Games:

• The FISU World University Games, formerly the Universiade, is an international multi-sport event organised by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) for university athletes.

• The FISU World University Games dates back to 1905 when the first International University Games were held in the United States.

• The FISU World University Games are held in two seasons - the Winter World University Games and the Summer World University Games.

• The FISU World University Games are held every two years.

• The Winter World University Games event was held in Lake Placid, United States from 11-21 January 2023.
