Govt is Opening Research Park to Promote Research Ecosystem

On 7 August 2023, Minister of State for Education Dr. Subhash Sarkar informed in a written reply in the Lok Sabha that the government is creating Research Parks to promote science and technology and expand the research ecosystem in the country.

The government had approved setting up of research parks at various prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology in the country to enhance the research ecosystem in the country.

• These institutes are mainly IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Gandhinagar and IISc Bangalore.

• While the research parks located at IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Delhi are functional and other parks are in the final stages of completion.

Objective of the Research Park:

• The main objective of these research parks is to bring innovation in the research culture in the country and implement them so that the general public can get its benefits.

• For this, the government is promoting several activities for researchers:

  • Research collaboration with best-in-class industries,

  • To enable entrepreneurship and incubation of students and build strong academic linkages for the same,

  • Increase access of educational material to industry and

  • To enable industry to add value to academic programs through close collaboration.

• To achieve the various objectives of research parks, they are generally set up in higher educational institutions of the country.
