A S Rajeev sworn in as Vigilance Commissioner in CVC

Banker A S Rajeev was sworn in as a member of the Central Vigilance Commission on 11 March 2024 in New Delhi . He was administered the oath of office as the Vigilance Commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission by  the  Central Vigilance Commissioner Praveen Kumar Srivastava.  The other Vigilance Commissioner Arvinda Kumar was also present on the occasion.

Earlier, AS Rajeev was appointed the Vigilance Commissioner by President Droupdai Murmu on 9th February 2024. 

About A S Rajeev 

A S Rajeev is a career banker and has more than  38 years of experience in four public sector banks Syndicate Bank, Indian Bank, Vijaya Bank and Bank of Maharashtra.  During his tenure as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Maharashtra ,the bank graduated from being a small sized bank to a midsized bank with a healthy balance sheet.

Indian Bank emerged as a strong and profitable public sector bank during his tenure as the Executive Director in the Bank .

He has also served as a Nominee Director in the Export Import Bank Of India (EXIM Bank), New India Assurance Co Ltd and National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). He was also  the Vice Chairman of the Indian Banks Association (IBA) and Member of Core Group constituted by RBI for implementation of Indian Accounting Standards.

Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC)

• Accepting the recommendation of the K. Santhanam Committee on Prevention of Corruption, the government of India established the Central Vigilance Commission in February 1964.
•  The K. Santhanam Committee was set up by the Government of India in 1962. It was asked to examine the various aspects of Corruption in Government departments and recommend measures to check it.
• K Santhanam Commitee recommended a body which will advise and guide Central Government agencies in the field of vigilance.
• In 1998, the President issued an ordinance making the Central Vigilance Commission a statutory body. Later, the Parliament passed the Central Vigilance Commission Act 2003 to replace the ordinance.
• The  Central Vigilance Commission has been made the Designated Agency" by the government of India for receiving written complaints on any allegation of corruption or misuse of office by government employees. It also has the power to recommend appropriate action in such cases.

Members and their tenure 

It consists of a Chairman and two vigilance commissioners. The tenure of a Central Vigilance Commissioner  and vigilance commissioner is four years or until the incumbent attains the age of 65, whichever is earlier
