Mumbai Indians won 2nd WPL Title beating Delhi Capitals Sport 5 min read

Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals by eight runs in the final of the 3rd Women’s Premier League(WPL) to win their second WPL title. The final of the 3rd WPL 2025 was played at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on 15 March 2025. 

The inaugural edition of the WPL 2023 was also won by the Mumbai Indians with Royal Challengers Bengaluru winning the 2nd edition of the WPL in 2024. 

Harmanpreet, Nat Sciver-Brunt wins the final for Mumbai Indians 

Batting first the Mumbai Indians quickly lost 2 wickets for 14 runs. The third-wicket pair of Nat Sciver-Brunt and Captain Harmanpreet  Kau added valuable 89 runs to help the team finish at 149 for 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

During the final, Nat Sciver-Brunt became the first player to score 1000 runs in WPL history.

Harmanpreet was the top scorer for Mumbai India with 66 runs in 44 balls.

Chasing a target of 150 runs in their allotted 20 overs the Delhi Capital was helped by a quick fire 40 of 26 balls by Marizanne Kapp. In the last over Delhi Capitals needed 14 runs with 9 wickets down.

Nat Sciver-Brunt bowled the last over and successfully defended the total.

Thus the Delhi Capital finished the match at 141 for 9 and lost the match by eight runs.

  • Purple Cap for highest wicket-taker in the tournament (Rs. 5 lakh) - Amelia Kerr of Mumbai Indians. She took 18 wickets.
  • Most Sixes in the Tournament Award (Rs. 5 lakh) - Ashleigh Gardner of Gujarat Giants. She hit 18 sixes.
  • Best Strike Rate in the Tournament Award (Rs. 5 lakh) - Chinelle Henry of the UP Warriorz.
  • Catch of the season in the Tournament (Rs. 5 lakh) - Annabel Sutherland of Delhi Capitals against Mumbai Indians.
  • Most Dot Balls in the Tournament (Rs. 5 lakh) - Shabnim Ismail of Mumbai Indians. She bowled 131 dot balls.
  • Fair Play of the Tournament Award (Rs. 5 lakh) - Gujarat Giants

Women Premiers League (WPL)

The Women's Premier League was started by the Board of  Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

It is a club-based franchised cricket modelled on the men’s Indian Premier League (IPL).

Five teams - Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Giants, and UP Warriorz participate in the tournament.

  • In the inaugural WPL 2023, Mumbai Indians were the champions.
  • In the second edition of the WPL held in 2024, Royal Challenger Bengaluru won the title.
  • The third edition held in 2025 was won by Mumbai Indians.
