Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has launched 'Namma Cargo' truck service in December 2023. Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation inducted 20 dedicated trucks into its freight transportation business named Namma Cargo.
Next year, 2024, it will include 500 trucks:
It was launched by Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy on 23 December 2023. The government-owned bus operator plans to add 100 trucks a month and 500 trucks a year.
Maintenance of the trucks will be done at KSRTC's Basaveshwara bus station in Peenya. Basaveshwara bus station has been lying idle for years due to poor connectivity.
According to Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, the remaining space at the bus station will be leased out to government companies for commercial purposes.
With Namma Cargo, KSRTC aims to disrupt the logistics business dominated by private companies.
KSRTC entered the sector in 2021 using its large fleet of passenger buses. KSRTC earns around Rs 2.5 crore every month from these operations.
Namma Cargo Truck Service will operate from across the state:
Namma cargo trucks will transport goods across Karnataka. However, special attention will be given to some major places, mainly Bengaluru, Mysuru, Tumakuru, Hassan, Mangaluru, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kolar, etc.
The state-owned transport corporation "Namma Cargo Truck Service" is equipped with GPS to transport goods.
According to KSRTC, the trucks will transport goods across Karnataka with safe, prompt and reliable services.
KSRTC, a major transport corporation, operates across 16 divisions with 83 depots 174 bus stands, providing 7,649 transport services and managing a fleet of 8,355 buses.
The trucks are closed containers and each have a payload of 6 tonnes.
