Virat Kohli has broken Sachin Tendulkar's record to become the fastest player to score 14,000 runs in one-day internationals (ODI). He scored his 14,000th run in his 287th inning against Pakistan in a Champions Trophy match played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, on 23 February 2025.
Before the start of the match against Pakistan, Kohli needed 15 runs to reach the 14,000-run milestone.
Pakistan set India a target of 242 in 50 overs. Virat Kohli led the successful India chase with a superb unbeaten century (100 not out) to beat Pakistan by 6 wickets.
With its victory against Pakistan in the Group A league match, India has qualified for the semi-final of the 9th ICC Champions Trophy 2025. New Zealand and Bangladesh are the other teams in Group A.
Three male cricketers -Indian Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka and Virat Kohli- have scored more than 14,000 runs in the ODIs.
Sachin Tendulkar reached the 14,000 run milestone in his 350th innings, and Sangakkara in his 378th innings.
Virat Kohli reached this milestone in his 287th inning.
In terms of balls, Virat is also the fastest among the three. Virat scored the 14,000th run in 14,984 balls, while Tendulkar played 16,292 balls and Sagnakkara’s 17,789.
In the list of highest run scorers in ODIs, Virat is at the third spot after Sachin Tendulkar with 18,426 and Sangakkara’s 14234.
Currently, Virat has scored 14085 runs in the ODIs.
