India has topped the Asian Shooting Championship 2024 with a total of 19 medals. In this competition, India has won 7 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze medals.

Asian Shooting Championship 2024 to be held:

  • The Asian Shooting Championship 2024 was organised from 8 December 2023 to 11 January 2024 in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia.
  • In women's shooting, Rhythm Sangwan won a bronze medal in the 25m pistol event at the Asian Shooting Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia, on January 11.
  • With this medal, Rhythm secured the 16th Paris Olympic quota for the Indian shooting team. This is the sixth Paris quota for India in the pistol event and the second quota in women's 25-metre pistol.
  • Rhythm performed brilliantly and finished the tournament by winning a total of five medals (1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals).
  • Earlier in the tournament, Varun Tomar and Esha Singh had won the 14th and 15th quota for the Indian team in the 10m air pistol men's and women's categories, respectively.

India achieved the highest number of Paris Olympics quotas:

  • So far, India has won a total of 16 quotas in shooting. This is more than the 15 quotas won for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
  • Earlier on January 10, Nancy Mandhotra had won the gold medal in women's 10 metre air rifle with a junior Asian record of 252.8 points. While former world number 1 Elavenil Valarivan won the silver medal, trailing by 0.1 points.
  • In junior women's air rifle, Isha Taksale, Khyaty Choudhary and Anvi Rathod captured the podium, respectively.
  • In Junior Men's Air Rifle, China's Pan Bowen won the gold medal by defeating India's Abhinav Shaw and Parth Mane.
  • While in the men's category, world champion Rudrakksh Patil was pushed to the bronze medal.

China at second position in the medal table:

  • India tops the medal tally with seven gold, six silver and six bronze medals.
  • While China stood second with a total of 9 medals including four gold, two silver and three bronze.

16 Olympic quotas at stake in Asian Shooting Championship 2024:

  • In this competition held in Jakarta, 16 quotas for the Paris Olympics 2024 were at stake.
  • 385 shooters from 26 countries participated in the competition.
  • Apart from the Olympic quota, 256 medals were at stake in this competition. These include 84 gold, 84 silver and 88 bronze.

Highest quota shooters achieved:

  • India has received 32 quotas for the Paris Olympics to be held in July 2023. Of these, a maximum of 16 shooters have achieved this.
  • India has 9 Olympic quotas in athletics, 4 in boxing, and one in hockey, archery and wrestling.

8 Olympic quota rifle shooters got:

  • So far, India has received 16 Olympic quotas from shooting. These include 8 Olympic quotas in rifle, 6 in pistol and 2 in shotgun.
