Ist India Maritime Heritage Conclave 2024 Concludes in New Delhi

The two-day first India Maritime Heritage Conclave 2024 concluded in New Delhi on 12 December 2024. The Conclave highlighted India’s rich maritime legacy since the Harappan period. The Conclave brought together the key ministers of the Union government, maritime experts, industry leaders and others from India and abroad. 

Apart from highlighting India's rich maritime heritage, the Conclave also deliberated on developing the maritime sector in India to create employment opportunities and make India a global hub and a leading maritime player.

Four State Governments - Gujarat, Goa, Bihar and Arunachal Pradesh participated in the Conclave.

Organiser of the India Maritime Heritage Conclave 2024

The Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways organised the India Maritime Heritage Conclave 2024. 

The Union Ministry for  Labour and Employment, the Union Ministry for Youth Affairs and Sports, the Union Ministry for Education, and the Union Ministry for Tourism and Culture collaborated with the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.

Who inaugurated the  India Maritime Heritage Conclave 2024?

The  India Maritime Heritage Conclave 2024 was inaugurated by the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, on 11 December 2024.

The Conclave was also addressed by the Vice-President of India, Jagdeep Dhankar, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a special message.

The Conclave was also addressed by the Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Labor and Employment and Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

Aim of the India Maritime Heritage Conclave 2024

The aims of the first India Maritime Heritage Conclave 2024 are as follows;

• To highlight the rich maritime legacy of the country.
• To draw a futuristic blueprint for India to become a global hub and a leading maritime nation.
• To create awareness about employment opportunities in the maritime sector.
• Integrate rich maritime heritage in India's education system.
• Promote Indian maritime heritage as a tourist destination and work for its preservation.

The Government of India is developing the National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal, Gujarat.
