Indian Women Shines at the U17 World Wrestling Championships 2024

The young Indian women's wrestlers produced a stellar performance at the U17 World Wrestling Championships 2024, winning the team title and breaking the Japanese dominance in the championship. The Indian women's contingent won 8 out of the 10 medals won by the Indian wrestlers at the Championships, outshining the male wrestlers.

The Indian contingent won 10 medals- 5 gold,1 silver and 4 bronze.

At the U17 World Wrestling Championships 2023 in Istanbul, Turkiye, India, won one gold, seven silver, and three bronze medals.

The U17 World Wrestling Championships 2024 was organised by the world wrestling governing body, United World Wrestling, in Amman, Jordan, from 19 to 25 August 2024.

Indian Wrestlers at the Amman Event 

At the U17 World Wrestling Championships 2024, competition was held in three disciplines- men’s freestyle, Greco-Roman, and women’s freestyle. There were 30 medal events, and the Indian contingent participated in 29 out of 30 medal events. The Indian failed to win a single medal in the men’s freestyle event.

Indian Women's Wrestler won the Team Event

For the first time in the U-17 World Wrestling Championships history, the Indian women's wrestlers won the team title. 

They won five gold, one silver, and two bronze medals to secure 185 points and win the team title. Japan came second with 146 points, and Kazakhstan came third.

The Indian women's team has always been in the top five positions in the last five editions of the championships. They were second behind the USA team in 2021 and again secured second in 2022 behind Japan.

In the 2024 Championship, the Indian men's contingent won only two medals.
