Indian team won 22 medals at the World Para-Athletics Championship 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised India’s historic performance at the World Para-Athletics Championship. The Prime Minister said that the Indian team achieved its best-ever performance, winning 22 medals including six golds.

• India concluded its campaign at the World Para-Athletics Championship held in New Delhi with six gold, nine silver, and seven bronze medals. On the final day at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, seven Indians competed.

Organization of the World Para-Athletics Championship 2025

• The World Para-Athletics Championship 2025 was held in India’s capital, New Delhi. The 12th edition of the World Para-Athletics Championship started on 27 September and ended on 5 October.
• In the 2024 edition held in Kobe, Japan, India won a total of 17 medals—six gold, five silver, and six bronze. The 73-member Indian para-athlete team included 54 men and 19 women.
• India has won a total of 67 medals at the World Para-Athletics Championship—19 gold, 24 silver, and 24 bronze.
• Shailesh Kumar won India’s first gold at the World Para-Athletics Championship 2025, winning the men’s high jump T63 title on the first day with an Asian record. Later the same day, Deepti Jeevanji won silver in the women’s 400 meters T20.

Medal Table

• Brazil topped the medal table at the World Para-Athletics Championship 2025 held in New Delhi, improving by one medal from second place in 2024.
• It won a total of 44 medals including 15 gold, 20 silver, and nine bronze.
• It surpassed China in the table, which had topped the medal table in 2024. China won a total of 52 medals (13 gold, 22 silver, and 17 bronze) but finished second due to fewer golds.
• Iran stood third with 16 medals (nine gold, two silver, and five bronze). Meanwhile, host India ranked 10th in the medal table.
