India wins Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship for 5th time at Tehran

The Indian women's Kabaddi team defeated Iran to win their fifth Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship title. The Indian team defeated the host, Iran, 32-25, in the final of the 6th Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship 2025, held in Tehran on 8th March 2025.
The sixth Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship 2025 was held in Tehran from 6-8th March 2025. It was the third time that Iran was hosting the Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship ,having hosted it in 2007 and 2017.
The Indian Kabaddi team, led by Sonali Shingate, entered the 6th edition of the Asian Kabaddi Championship as a defending champion. India had won the previous edition held at Gorgan,Iran in 2017 by beating the South Korean team in the final.
India, which was placed in Group A along with Thailand, Bangladesh, and Malaysia, began its campaign with a comprehensive win against Bangladesh 64-23. In the other league matches, the Indian team defeated Thailand 76-21 and Nepal 47-14.
India faced Nepal in the semi-final, and Iran faced Bangladesh. India defeated Nepal 56-18, and Iran defeated Bangladesh 41-18 to set up a title clash.
Seven teams from Asia participated in the 6th Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship 2025. They were divided into two groups
Group A: India, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Malaysia.
Group B: Nepal, Iran, and Iraq.
In the league stage, each team played against each other, and the top two teams from each group progressed to the semi-finals stage.
The Asian Kabaddi Federation organises the Asian Women Kabaddi Championship, which is hosted by member countries.
India is the most successful team in the history of the championship, having won it 5 times, and the South Korean team has won it once.
