New Zealand’s left-arm fast bowler Trent Boult has announced his retirement from International Cricket after New Zealand's final Group C match against Papua New Guinea at the 2024 T20 ICC Cricket World Cup. The match was played at the Brian Lara stadium in Tarouba.
The New Zealand side, already eliminated from the 2024 T20 World Cup, dismissed the Papua New Guinea side for 78 runs, with Trent Boul taking two wickets for 14 runs. His fellow pacer, Lockie Ferguson, returned with a remarkable figure of 4-4-0-3. In his allotted four overs, Ferguson took three wickets without conceding a single run.
He is the second player after Canada’s Saad Bin Zafar to achieve this feat of not conceding a single run in his allotted four overs. In the match against Panama in 2021, Saad returned with a figure of 4-4-0- 2.
Trent Boult made his international debut for New Zealand in 2011, and he represented the Black Cap (New Zealand team) in all the formats of the games - Test matches, One Day Internationals (ODIs) and T 20 Internationals.
He also has the distinction of appearing in all the finals of the three formats of the games. He played in the first ICC World Test Championship final held at Lords, England, in 2021 against India. The final was won by New Zealand by 8 wickets.
Again, he played in the final of the 2019 ICC ODI World Cup at London where New Zealand narrowly lost to England.
He was part of New Zealand's team that lost to Australia in the 2021 T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
Trent Boult has been a regular of the New Zealand side and has played in four T20 World Cups.
Trent Boult took 317 wickets in 78 Test matches he played for the Black Caps.
He is the fourth-highest wicket-taker for New Zealand in the test format after Richard Hadlee(431 wickets), longstanding new-ball colleague Tim Southee (380 Test wickets) and left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori (361).
Boult’s last Test was against England at Headingley in 2022.
He has played 114 one-day internationals and taken 211 wickets in the format. His last ODI match was the semifinal against India in the 2023 World Cup, which India won by 70 runs.
In 2022, he was released from the New Zealand central contract so that he could play in T20 leagues around the world. Since then, he has been infrequently selected by the New Zealand side.
The left-arm seamer made a very potent seam attack with Tim Southee for New Zealand.
