Former Indian-origin MP Devanand Noel Dev Sharma has been elected to the Upper House of the Australian Parliament. He is set to return to politics after his victory in the New South Wales Liberal Senate race.

Former Foreign Minister Marise Payne is retiring from the Senate, in her place former Indian-origin MP Dave Sharma has been elected.

Andrew Constance defeated:

Dave Sharma defeated former New South Wales minister Andrew Constance. According to a report, Dave Sharma defeated his rival 251-206 in the election held on 26 November 2023 by members of the New South Wales Liberal Party.

Dave Sharma has expertise in diplomatic and foreign policy:

Dave Sharma's diplomatic and foreign policy expertise would add considerable weight and wisdom to public policy debates given the uncertain circumstances in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific.

Dave Sharma who formerly served as Ambassador :

Dave Sharma served as Australia's Ambassador to Israel from 2013 to 2017.
Sharma defeated former New South Wales minister Andrew Constance 251–206 in the final vote by members of the New South Wales Liberal Party on 26 November 2023, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported. In fact, he had the support of moderates within the party.

Devanand Noel Sharma, or Dave Sharma:

At the age of 37, this global Indian was appointed as Ambassador to Israel, making him one of Australia's youngest ambassadors and the second Australian ambassador of Indian heritage.
