The Indore Mayor in council has approved a proposal to use the name 'Bharat' instead of 'India' in all its official functions and correspondence. The proposal, approved by the Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava, will now be placed before the 85-member house of the Indore Municipal Corporation.
According to Mayor Bhargava, the Indian name was a gift from the British. The name Bharat reflects our country's rich historical and cultural heritage.
