The India men’s table tennis team had to settle for a bronze medal at the 26th ITTF -Asian Table Tennis Championship being held in Pyeongchang,South Korea. The 26th ITTF (International Table Tennis Federation) Asian Table Tennis Championship is being held in Pyeongchang, South Korea from 3-10 September 2023.
The Indian team comprising Sharath Kamal, Harmeet Desai and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran lost to Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) by 0-3 in the semi final match played on 6 September 2023. Team which loses the semi-final match is awarded a bronze medal along with the third place team.
The gold medal was won by the Chinese team by defeating Chinese Taipei in the final . Chinese Taipei got silver medal and the third place team was South Korea
In the women's section the gold medal was won by the Chinese women's team. They defeated the South Korean team in the final.
The Indian women’s team consisting of Manika Batra, Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee lost 0-3 to Thailand to finish sixth.
India has so far won only five bronze medals in the history of the Asian Table Tennis Championships. All medals have come in the team event. Before the Pyeongchang event India had won 4 bronze
medals .Three of these medals came at the 25th ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championship in Doha, Qatar. The Indian men’s doubles team won two bronze medals and India got one bronze medal in the mixed team event.
