The Indian Men’s Hockey team led by Mandeep Mor defeated Pakistan in a penalty shootout in the final to win the inaugural Men’s Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier played at Salalah, Oman on 2 September 2023. With this win the Indian men’s team has qualified for the first FIH Men’s Hockey5s World Cup to be held in Muscat,Oman in January 2024.
At the end of the regulation time both the team scores were tied at 4-4 . In the ensuing penalty shootout India won by 2-0 goals .
The Indian women team has already qualified for the first FIH Women’s Hockey5s World Cup to be held in Muscat,Oman in January 2024.
Three spots from Asia were up for grabs at the Men’s Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier for the FIH Men Hockey5s World Cup 2024.
India, Pakistan and Malaysia qualified for the FIH Men Hockey5s World Cup 2024.
Oman defeated Malaysia to claim the third spot and the bronze medal . However, Oman being the host of the FIH Men’s Hockey5s World Cup has already qualified for the final.
Thus the third qualification position from Asia was claimed by Malaysia as the fourth placed team.
