India wins inaugural Women’s Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier

India wins inaugural Women’s Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier Sport 3 min read

The Indian women Hockey team led by Navjot Kaur defeated Thailand 7-2 in the final to win the inaugural Women’s Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier played at Salalah, Oman on 28 August 2023. With this win the Indian women's team has qualified for the first FIH Hockey5s World Cup to be held in Muscat,Oman in January 2024.In the Hockey5s format only 5 players from each side are allowed to play the match.

Three spots from Asia were up for grabs at the Women’s Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier for the FIH Women  Hockey5s World Cup 2024. India,Thailand and Malaysia qualified for the World Cup. Malaysia won their match against Indonesia to grab the third spot. 

In the final match Mariana Kujur and Jyoti each scored twice and Monika Dipi Toppo , Navjot Kaur, Mahima Choudhary were the other goal scorers.

Qualified Teams for the FIH Women Hockey5s World Cup 2024

The whole world has been divided into 5 zones ; Africa, Pan America , Europe, Oceania and Asia .  16 teams will participate in the world cup including the host Oman .

  • Namibia, South Africa and Zambia (Africa), 
  • USA, Uruguay and Paraguay (Pan America), 
  • Netherlands, Poland and Ukraine (Europe), 
  • Australia, New Zealand and Fiji (Oceania).
  • India, Thailand and Malaysia (Asia)
