Badminton powerhouse China won the BWF Sudirman Cup for the fourth consecutive time, beating South Korea 3-1 in the final of the 19th edition of the Sudirman Cup 2025.
It was the 14th title win for the Chinese in the Sudirman Cup's history. Only three countries, China, Indonesia, and South Korea, have won the Sudirman Cup.
The Indian team failed to qualify for the quarter-finals and finished 9th amongst the 16 teams participating in the tournament.
The Sudirman Cup is a biennial mixed-team badminton competition organised by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). China hosted the 19th edition of the Sudirman Cup Finals in Xiamen from 27 April to 4 May 2025.
The 2025 Sudirman Cup final was a repeat of the 2023 final, in which China defeated South Korea. This year, the result was the same: China defeated South Korea 3-1.
The Chinese team defeated Japan, while South Korea defeated Indonesia to reach the final. This was the Chinese team's 16th consecutive final.
Results
The Men’s Doubles was not played as China had already won the title 3-1.
Sixteen top-ranked badminton nations, including India, qualified for the 2025 Sudirman Cup Finals. These countries were divided into four groups, each with four teams.
India was placed in Group D along with Indonesia, Denmark and England.
India lost 4- 1 to Denmark and Indonesia. India defeated England in the final rubber 3-2 but failed to qualify for the quarter-finals.
India’s best performance in the Sudirman Cup was in 2011 and 2017, when it reached the quarter-final stage.
Sudirman Cup was instituted by the BWF in 1989 in memory of the founder and President of Badminton Association of Indonesia, late Dick Sudirman.
Sudirman Cup is a mixed team event held every two years. Over the years, it has become a premier championship, like the Thomas Cup for men and the Uber Cup for women.
The Thomas Cup and Uber Cup are held every two years in even-numbered years.
The Sudirman Cup is held in odd-numbered years.
Winners
Only three teams have won the Sudirman Cup- China, Indonesia and South Korea.
Only five countries have entered the finals of the Sudirman Cup -China, Indonesia, South Korea, Denmark and Japan.
China has won the title 14 times since its inception in 1989.
Indonesia has won it only once in 1989
South Korea has won it four times: 1991,1993,2003, and 2017.
