Cabinet Approves MoU Between Prasar Bharati & Radio Televisyen Malaysia Agreements and MoU 3 min read

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved an MoU between Prasar Bharati and Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) for cooperation in broadcasting. This agreement was signed on 7 November 2023.

  • With the approval of this agreement, the total number of MoUs signed by Prasar Bharati with various countries has increased to 46.
  • These MoUs will be important in exploring new strategies for distributing content in other countries, developing partnerships with international broadcasters and meeting the demands of new technologies.
  • Prasar Bharati plays a very important role in nation-building and continuously focuses on providing meaningful and accurate content to everyone, both in the country and abroad.

Objective/Benefits of the Agreement:

  • The objective of this agreement is to exchange programs in culture, education, science, technology, sports, news and other fields.
  • This agreement will significantly enhance India's friendly relations with Malaysia.

Some other decisions taken by the Union Cabinet:

  • The Cabinet approved the opening of the Consulate General of India in Auckland, New Zealand.
  • The Cabinet approved the construction of a 4.56 km long, 6-lane new bridge over the river Ganga connecting Digha and Sonpur in Bihar.
  • The Cabinet approved the improvement and widening of a 135 km long stretch of Khowai-Harina road in Tripura.
  • Cabinet approves Migration and Mobility Agreement between India and Italy.
  • The cabinet approved the Minimum Support Price of Copra for the 2024 season.
    • The price of Milling Copra in the 2024 season has increased by Rs 300/- per quintal. The price of Ball Copra has increased by Rs 250/- per quintal compared to the previous season.

  • Formation - 23 November 1997
  • Prasar Bharati is a public broadcasting organisation of India. It mainly includes Doordarshan and All India Radio.
  • In September 1990, Parliament passed the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Act.
  • In this Act, provision was made for the establishment of an Indian Broadcasting Corporation named Prasar Bharati.
