Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus was voted WTA(Women Tennis Association) Player of the Year for 2024. This is the first time Aryna Sabalenka has won the WTA Player of the Year award.
The international tennis media, accredited by the women’s professional tennis governing body WTA, votes to select the best players, tournaments, and coaches of the year after the conclusion of the WTA calendar year.
Apart from Aryna Sabalenka, the Italian doubles duo of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini were voted the Doubles Team of the Year, Emma Navarro the Most Improved Player, Paula Badosa the Comeback Player, and Lulu Sun the Newcomer of the Year.
26-year-old Aryna Sabalenka had a very successful year as a tennis player.
She successfully defended her Australian Open singles title in 2024 and won her first US Open singles title.
She also won WTA 1000 events at the Cincinnati Open and the Dongfeng Voyah- Wuhan Open.
In October 2024, she was for the first time ranked World No.1 and ended the 2024 year as the World No.1 player.
The Italian pair Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini were voted the WTA Doubles Player of the Year.
The Italian pair won the gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
They played their first final as a pair at the 2024 Roland Garros (French Open).
They became the first Italian pair to win WTA Masters 1000 titles in Rome, Italy, and also won the China Open title.
Emma Navarro of the United States was voted the most improved player on the WTA circuit in 2024.
This year, she won her first career title at the WTA 250 Hobart International and reached six semi-finals of the WTA events and Grand Slam in 2024.
New Zealand’s women's tennis professional player Lulu Sun was voted the WTA Newcomer of the Year.
Before the start of the 2024 season, Lulu was ranked outside the Top 200, and before the end of the season, she was ranked 40th in the world.
