External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi was appointed India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva on 16 October 2023.
Arindam Bagchi is a 1995 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). Bagchi took over as the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs in March 2021.
Arindam Bagchi appointed in place of Indra Mani Pandey:
Bagchi will replace Indra Mani Pandey in Geneva. Presently Arindam Bagchi is working as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.
Bagchi has been appointed as the next Ambassador (Permanent Representative) of India to the United Nations and other international organizations.
Who is the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs?
In this context, it is understood that the names of about four senior diplomats, including Joint Secretary (G-20) Nagaraj Naidu Kakanur and Nandini Singla, High Commissioner of India in Mauritius, are being considered for the post of spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs.
Career of Arindam Bagchi:
Arindam Bagchi handled many important issues and developments well, including the Eastern Ladakh border dispute, India's COVID-19, India's G20 presidency.
Some time ago, after being promoted to the post of Additional Secretary, he was to be appointed to the post of Ambassador, but he was asked to continue in the post till the holding of the G20 Summit.
Bagchi previously looked after economic and development issues at India's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, and handled relations with the United Nations, the United States and Russia as Director in the Prime Minister's Office.
Bagchi has also served as Ambassador toCroatia and Deputy High Commissioner to Sri Lanka.
