National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met Russian President Vladimir Putin on 12 September 2024 at the sidelines of the meeting of the national security advisors of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) nations.
Russia currently chairs the BRICS group and will host all BRICS-related meetings in 2024. President Putin will host the 16th BRICS summit meeting in the Russian city of Kazan from 22 to 24 October 2024.
During his meeting with Ajit Doval, President Putin formally invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the summit meeting in Russia.
Conclave of the National Security Advisors of BRICS 2024
The conclave of the BRICS national security advisors was held in St Petersburg, Russia, from September 11 to 13, 2024.
The meeting was attended by the National Security Advisors of the 10 BRICS member countries: India, Brazil, Russia, South Africa, China, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Ethiopia, and Saudi Arabia.
The meeting was hosted by the Russian National Security Advisor Sergei Shoigu.
Ajit Doval meeting with President Putin
- Ajit Doval met with President Putin at the Konstantinovsky Palace in St.Petersburg to brief him on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Ukraine on September 23, 2024.
- During his visit to Ukraine, Prime Minister Modi met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and discussed ways to end the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
- Russian troops entered Ukraine on 24 February 2022, and since then, the war has continued.
- Recently, President Putin said that India, China, and Brazil could play a mediator role in ending the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
- NSA Ajit Doval also met the Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi during the meeting in St.Petersburg.
Malaysia Apply for BRICS membership
- Malaysia has formally applied for membership in the BRICS group, and Thailand, another Southeast Asian country, has also applied.
- Initially, the group was called BRIC for Brazil, Russia, India and China.
- South Africa joined the group in 2010, and the group name was changed to BRICS.
- Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates joined the group on 1 January 2024, taking the total number of member countries to 10.
