Introduction

Key Highlights of IAS Exam 2019 notification

  • IAS exam (CSE) is a national level exam and is considered as one of the prestigious examinations of UPSC.
  • The IAS exam consists of 3 phases which are:
    • Preliminary Examination
    • Mains Examination
    • Interview
  • IAS Exam Date 2019 for Mains already announced with the release of official UPSC notification.
  • As per the notification, the IAS Mains exam will be conducted from 20th September to 29th September.
  • The UPSC IAS exam consists of Paper 1 & Paper 2 conducted across the various centers in the country.
  • The Paper-1 General Studies (200 Marks) will be conducted in the morning shift.
  • The Paper-2 CSAT (200 Marks) is to be conducted in the afternoon shift.
  • The admit card of IAS Mains has also released on the official website.
  • Earlier, UPSC released IAS exam 2019 notification for total 896 vacancies of IAS, IFS, IPS & other posts at UPSC online portal.
  • The online application for IAS exam closed on 19th March 2019.
  • UPSC is a central committee which holds this exam to recruit the candidates for the post of IFS, IAS, IPS, and other groups A and B posts.

Prelims

This is the first step of civil services examinations. It’s totally based on multiple choice questions. It carries 200 marks for two papers. The first paper is of General studies carrying 100 marks and the second paper is names as ‘Civil Services Aptitude Test’ popularly known as CSAT (80 questions, 200 marks). This is only a qualifying paper and the candidate has to obtain 33℅ marks. Negative marking pattern is applicable in both the papers and 3 wrong answers means deduction of marks of one right answer. The cut off point in prelims is determined by the first paper i.e. General studies.

Main Exam

The second step of civil services examination is Main Exams. Candidates passing through the prelims are eligible to appear in Main Examinations. The main examination is of 1750 marks in which 1000 marks are for general studies( 4 papers of 250-250 marks), 500 marks for one optional paper (two papers 250-250 marks) and 250 marks for essay writing are set. The questions are of descriptive and subjective type in Main Exams.

Interview

The last and important step in civil services examination is ‘interview’. There is no fixed syllabus for the same. It is of 275 marks but it plays a crucial role in final selection.
